Port Sulphur, LA: Modern House Elevation On Historic Site
Port Sulphur, LA
Project Description
Customer Challenge
For example, at this site in Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana, artifacts were recovered that were associated with the Ironton Plantation. The historical site required a much higher level of activities than normal to preserve its historical significance while elevating the existing home out of danger.
Our Solution
HGA developed detailed scopes of work, unique to each structure being elevated, showing that no ground disturbance would take place outside of the existing footprint. Per FEMA and SHPO requirements, HGA issued full reports of the archaeological monitoring, to include the following:
- Background history
- Photographs
- Field work by an approved archaeologist
- Lab work analyzing artifacts found
- Reporting data
Value Delivered
HGA carried out treatment measures including archaeological surveys, monitoring, and recordation packages. These treatment measures identified archaeological resources, archived artifacts, and recorded data to aid in the preservation of our Nation’s most significant historic resources and their unique value.
