Customer challenge
As global demand for biomass continues, Drax wanted to increase the 250,000-ton manufacturing capacity at its Aliceville, Alabama wood pellet plant by nearly 50%. The expansion would include upgrades to existing systems as well as new truck dumps and pelletizer units, which will allow for an increase in the amount of sawmill residuals processed.

Near the end of the expansion project, Drax required over a 30-day outage to tie in many of the new and existing components of the facility that were modified as part of the expansion. Drax needed to increase the size of its construction management team. However, using their employees was impractical for their solution.

Drax was looking to add three construction managers and one HSE resource to help meet the increasing project demands. These resources were needed before the outage began, and some were required to remain after the outage. During the plant outage, this new, augmented team would be expected to work 12-hour shifts, 7 days per week, for a 6+ week duration and would ideally be able to meet the increased demands for the plant expansion.

Considering the urgency of this need, combined with limited resource availability, Drax did not have the bandwidth to hire technical experts in-house. They needed another solution. They reached out to HGA Staffing Solutions.
